A national historic landmark, the Wang Theatre opened in 1925 as the Metropolitan. It was a dazzling venue to view motion pictures and attend concerts and vaudeville shows with its crystal chandeliers, ornate fixtures, elaborate wall coverings, and regal lobby.

​In 1962 the Metropolitan was renamed the Music Hall. Despite many legendary concerts, including The Who and Neil Young in 1971, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on numerous occasions, and Bob Marley & the Wailers in 1978, the Music Hall gradually lost its sheen and fell into disrepair. 

​In 1983, the Music Hall became the Wang Theatre. With financial support from Dr. An Wang, founder of Wang Laboratories, the theater was restored and broadened its cultural offerings to include touring Broadway productions and other unique events.

​In 2016, the Boch Family became the principal benefactor of the Wang Theatre, enabling it to attract top names in music, theater, and other performing arts. Today, the Wang Theatre is one of Boston’s most popular cultural venues.
